Question from Sarah: “To all the Cake Smash photogs…. What are you putting down during the shoot? (on the floor)”

Morgan: Plexi Glass- I’ve seen this done. It creates an adorable reflection and an easy clean up!

Dana: Got a nice sized piece of plexiglas from Home Depot for about $30! Perfect for keeping the floor clean, and it is easy to clean and disinfect for the next one!

Lauren:  I currently use seamless paper and just toss the part that gets dirty, but I will be picking up some plexiglass once I get the chance 🙂

Tam:  I use vinyl drops for coloured themes, or flute board for plain white ones, and a packet of baby wipes is all I need 😛

Pierce: at home depot there is a large board particle with a white side, some teachers use it for a cheaper dry erase, we used is as a floor and thought of doing some dry erase designs on it for the holidays. very inexpensive and huge, sticks out the back of our dodge ram. they will cut it for you.

Crystal: Vinyl flooring first…then seamless paper over. The vinyl is to keep anything from coming through onto the carpet. Seamless is easy to clean up…but costs about $15.00 per time used for a cake smash…which can add up!

Carla:  I have one this coming Friday and I’m going to put plexi glass/acrylic sheet on top of the drop that’s on the floor. It was also recommended I spray the area with Scotchgard (the backdrop, not the floor).

Belinda:  Just a vinyl backdrop/flooring and a packet of baby wipes (bonus is i had about 10 packs left over from my daughter) so i don’t have to buy any for a while!!!

C Lorena: Seamless paper

DeeDee:  Seamless paper, disposable tablecloth underneath. Towels on hand!

Sarah: Thank you everyone. Pierce Brosnan.. I used one of those panel boards as my floor drop and used it for a cake smash and the icing stained it. (that is why I was asking what everyone used). TY

Kelly:  I’ve used seamless paper, the actual hardwood floor and once a pretty patterned tablecloth … luckily that baby wasn’t too messy! I always advise the parents to have a soap filled sink ready to dunk their baby in afterwards! (I go to their homes.)

Esta: When doing indoors, I got away from fabric backdrops and got some vinyl backdrops. Wipes right off.

Christy:  Plexiglas over my white vinyl

Jen: The back of a vinyl drop, works great , reusable and easy to clean

Jaye: They go either directly on the floor (we have vinyl hardwood in the studio) or a white sheet that can be bleached after.

Pierce:  interesting on the staining…i used it for a pose guide shoot, brothers “smash cake” and my wife uses it in her classroom, we just cleaned it with some 409 and all was good. strange. i will test it again in a week and see.
