Question from Davon: “I tried printing out some pics that I took and had to crop out most of it to get it to print size. Is there a certain setting I should shoot on to be able to get my whole image printed?”

Timothy: There isn’t a setting but depending on your camera you may be able to set guidelines for different ratios that show on your preview screen after you take the pic. 4×5 is what you would use if you want to print 8×10 and is good for most all print sizes.

Jennifer: Not a setting that I’m aware of, but if you’re shooting a DSLR, the aspect ratio is 2:3, so making sure that you back up and have some space around your shot will allow you to crop to the amount you want. I would read up on aspect ratios, there is tons of information out there.

Melissa: I found since shooting in RAW with my Canon 50D that cropping (if needed) is very minimal when printing my pictures…

Robert: Davon, Remember that any size ratio that is 2:3 will print as shot…. But ratios such as 8×10 or 5×7 will require a crop….. Best advice is to shoot wider on the left and right of the image to allow the crop the ability to put as much of the important part of the image in the print….. Google crop ratio and you see some examples
