Question from Ami: “When giving a photo gift like a key chain to a client after a session do you do use a watermarked image or an image without the watermark?”

Tauby: Without watermark for sure

Em:  Water marked its you that have done the photography so they should advertise

E Shay: With a watermark. No doubt. If it’s a gift? Definitely with a watermark. If they BOUGHT it from you, it’s a toss-up. Could go either way and I would err on the side of advertising.

Tim:  If it’s a gift then no watermark. If it’s a promotional giveaway with a sample image than yes.

Amber: Agreed with

Em:  Watermark mean they are advertising your work if someone compliments the key ring x

Les:  if I pay for a photo, I want the photo not an advertisement. just saying.

Les:  but if you’re giving it away, thats good advertisement for you

Rachel: when you buy a piece of art work to hang on the wall, you are getting the signature of the artist, not just the image and you are paying for the signature too.

Zoe: Definitely with

Colleen: a discreet artist signature (tastefully at the bottom) so they can show folks that it is special….but not in an advertising sort of way (big watermark, etc.)

Tammy:  Keep it subtle, or they won’t use the item you meant for advertising.
