Question from Kanyon: “Does anybody have tips on getting a 4month old’s attention & getting them to smile?”

Heather: squeaky toy??? baby talk???

Christina:  anything that makes noise. I also use some paper to gently blow air in there face they love that. as well as kissing noises or a sneeze for some reason they think sneezes are funny.

Leniesha:  play peek-a-boo or tickle their nose with a feather

Katie: Good luck. LOL!

Jingly keys, have someone stand directly behind you and yield a reflector (right behind your head), squeaky anything (like a Sophie The Giraffe, which is a teething toy & baby-safe).

Christy: Make sure you have just one person trying to get their attention. I always have issues with mom, dad, grandma all trying to get the baby’s attention at the same time, and that’s sensory overload.

Brian:  There is usually one thing/action that a baby will find hysterical. It changes between babies. For instance, my friend’s kid laughed non stop whenever i just filled my cheeks with air…. My nephew loved when i made motorboat noises… The trick is to find that one thing, and have one person do that, so they’re not opposing things distracting them.

Kat: Keys, squeaky toys, bubbles, or Mom playing peek-a-boo behind me are my go-toos.  . I try to have everyone else leave us alone during the shoot.

Kathrin:  Great tips -Just adding – baby needs to be fed and happy ( not sleepy)to give you a smile, let her parents know that   its maybe something you know but just in case lol

Veronica: Anything that will make noise that she/he like a lot. Works with animals too

Chris:  For the shoots that I’ve done it definitely helps to have the parents behind you to get little ones attention. They usually know the little triggers for smiles and giggles.
