Here are some pet mini sessions for you to start offering.

Puppy Cake Smash

This is similar to a one‐year‐old baby’s cake smash session, but instead you have a one‐year‐old fur baby eating cake for their birthday! If you are getting the cake for this session, make sure it has doggy‐approved ingredients. These days, there are many gourmet pet bakeries (barkeries!), so consider this an opportunity to collaborate and network!

Puppy Milestones

Set this up in your studio or at an outside location, and follow the same milestone timeline for newborn sessions. Only instead of capturing a growing baby, you’re photographing the stages of a puppy growing up! Take pictures on the following: 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, one year.

Subject: We love your (insert company/product/service)

Hi (insert business name/business owner name):

I am a huge fan of your (insert company/product/service)!  We are a photography business in the area and just wanted to introduce ourselves. We would love the opportunity to work together sometime. Please let us know if there is any photography service we can help you with. We love doing shoots for promotional materials, social media and/or to freshen up your website! You can check out more of our pet sessions here (link to those specific sessions). We have a packet that goes over tips and commonly asked questions about this type of photography. Let us know if you would like for us to send it over. Either way, we wish you nothing but tons of success in (insert your area)!

5. Reach out to those you know already that have a pet.

This one is easy peasy and chances are… you can go on your Facebook page right now and tell me 20 people who have a pet! Right? You literally thought of a ton of people when I mentioned this right? Well, these are also people you can email or message! Don’t leave this group out of the mix.

If they do not respond back, do not keep messaging them. Chances are these are people you are actually already familiar with. The goal is not to “sell” them, it’s to “inform” them. Be helpful, set yourself up as the photography professional – that way even if they don’t need your services now, later on, they know they can reach out to you with questions.

You can send the same email as before but just change it up a bit.

6. Set up a booth at pet friendly fairs and festivals.

Setting up a booth at pet friendly fairs and festivals is a great way to market your pet sessions. Have a ton of your pet work displayed at your booth so people can see your pet photography. Make sure to take copies of your pet welcome guide to pass out to everyone who visits your booth. A pro tip: have treats at your booth for the dogs as they walk by, this is a great way to talk to some pet owners about your pet sessions. (always ask permission before you give a pet a treat, you never know if they are allergic.) You could even offer a pet bakery to go in with you on this. That would be a great way to network with a pet business!

7. Reach out to NEW pet companies in your area such as dog trainers, dog walkers, pet groomers, etc.

Reach out to new local pet businesses in your area, say hello and let them know more about your pet sessions and see if they would like to network with you. Networking with as many businesses as you can will help grow your pet business.
