7 Easy Engagement Poses in Just 5 Minutes

7 Easy Engagement Poses in Just 5 Minutes

Ever had an engagement session right after it rains, where you can’t do any sitting poses? Freakin’ out that you’re not gonna have a clue what to do or don’t know how to talk to your clients to get the pose you want? Then this post is just for you! 🙂

Want to know what pose I start out with for an engagement session? (Taken straight from our Engagement Posing Guide)

Walking Toward

Have them walk toward you and just talk to each other. Live, laugh, love. The sooner we get this going the sooner the groom can go back to watching the big game. Give him a reason to cooperate. 😉

Have them start out at the opposite end and tell them to walk toward you and talk to each other. I normally don’t like the images until they have done this walk through at least one other time. The first time their faces usually look awkward, because they are like what are we doing? 😉

*If they don’t think you’re shooting them walking toward the opposite end, normally it’s a great candid moment & they are relaxed.

So start shooting and them add some variety. Talk to the clients, get them to loosen up.

Say, “What, you don’t walk in the same place 4 or 5 times a day while someone is shooting you
psh this is normal.” Get them to love you.

Add variety with these steps:

  • Walk toward you linked arms
  • Walk toward you holding hands
  • Have the groom walk a bit in front of the bride, leading her & vice versa
  • Walk toward you and take turns who is looking at the camera

Example: Bride look at camera, groom look at her

Groom look at camera, bride look at him

* I start out shooting from the ground, then  I lay on the ground & shoot, stand up & shoot them dead on, and then shoot them from the side walking.

Walking Away

The next set of photos are a breeze. From the walking toward you, have them walk back and start all over again. This creates some great walking away from you action shots.

*If they don’t think you’re shooting them walking toward the opposite end, normally it’s a great candid moment & they are relaxed.

Look, Kiss & Whisper

You’re going to have to give them a bit more direction with this next set of shots.

Have them start walking away from you. Tell the bride to count three steps and then turn and look at you.

*Your goal is to get a great smile or fierce look from her.

If your couple is a non PDA couple (remember to ask them this, PRIOR to making them make out in public.) Have the groom whisper in her ear.

*Remember the more crazy, silly, goofy, you are, the more relaxed they will be.

Add variety with these steps:

  • Walk Away & Freeze Holding Hands/Kissing
  • Walk Away & Freeze Holding Hands/Whispering In Ear
  • Walk Away & Freeze Half Hug/Kissing
  • Walk Away & Freeze Half Hug/Whisper

*If you have a pose that looks uber lovey dovey, remember to capture that emotion and get into their bubble. It’s ok, if they start to look awkward, have them close their eyes. This makes the pose super lovey dovey and they aren’t like, “why are you in my bubble.” SCORE! Moving on.
