5 Techniques for Gaining Exposure for Family Photographers

Are you a family photographer who has been having trouble finding new clients? We have some great tips for ways to get your name out there and gain exposure for your company.

1) Offer photography services and or photo booth at school events.

Check the school calendar for upcoming events for the year and contact the PTA about photographing these events. Here are some ideas for events to look out for:

  • daddy/daughter dances
  • mommy and me brunch
  • art shows
  • dance recitals
  • sporting events
  • homecoming dances and after parties

2) Ask to put a flyer or welcome packet at daycares around your town.

This is a great way to reach a lot of parents who may be in need of photography services. Find a list of all of the local daycares in your area and ask to place a flyer or welcome packet somewhere where parents will see it. You could also see if you could put your flyer within the informational packets that they hand out to potential families when they sign up.

3) Reach out to adoption agencies.

Adoption agencies work with families every day. The addition of a new child is always an exciting time and something that people want to document with photos. These families will be searching for a photographer once they complete the adoption process. By advertising through the adoption agency, your studio is going to be something that is fresh in the minds of these parents. If you could become a preferred photographer among adoption agencies, you will tap in to an endless supply of potential referrals.

*If you are a newborn photographer, this is also something I would put on your list, as a lot of these people will be adopting newborn babies.

4) Think outside the box.

If you think that you have advertised everywhere you possibly can…keep thinking! There are always opportunities to find new families. Here are a few other places to advertise: local movie theaters / local festivals / church festivals and other church activities (like trunk or treat events or Mother’s Day brunches…a lot of churches host these) / Valentine banquets or sweetheart socials / youth dances

5) Look up restaurants in your area that offer kid’s night.

Contact them and see if you can set up a booth and do a giveaway on kid’s night. If they don’t allow you to set up a booth, ask if you can pass out or leave flyers at their location promoting the giveaway.
