Question from Janel: “I’m in the process of making an in home studio and need ideas of how to store backdrops. If you purchased something, please let me know where and why you like your storage solution.”

Bianca: Can you roll yours up? make thishttp://www.flickr.com/photos/bcjag76/5399010175/

Melanie:  For lightweight paper / poly backdrops, I use 3M Velcro strips. They work great and you can store your backdrops on a separate wall (if you have space) so avoiding creases, etc.

Tatiana:  I converted a book shelf into a storage system for my backdrops. I took out all the shelves, added a back cross support & then mounted a tension rod in side with a curtain on it. Holds about 25-30 backdrops without any issues and keeps the clients from seeing them too.

Tonya: I used a huge sheet of black fabric.

Shelly:  I store mine upright in a large garbage can on wheels in my office. I can pull it out to my home studio when I need to, or just grab one and go. I make sure all are labeled on the backside so I can just see my label and know which one I have.

Kylle: Shelley- don’t they crease at the bottom, the end that is in a can? I used to prop my vinyl backdrops in a corner in the mailing tube but they always creased on me 🙁

Shelly: Never have a problem with that Kylie. Maybe the type of material they are made of???

ShudderBug Photography: I love to work with fabrics and tend to like them crinkly 🙂

ShudderBug Photography:  So I store them all rolled up in a bin. i think wrinkles look better than folds. I do have some that I do not like wrinkles, so I roll them and store them along the wall behind my back drop stand. if I had the space and resources, I would love the system that mounts from the ceiling and rolls them up!
