Tips for Letting a Moment Unfold Naturally

First, I get to know my clients deeply and I become friends with them so that my session with them is very comfortable and natural. I don’t like to have my camera out right when I arrive to a shoot. I like to chat a bit, meet the children, and have them get comfortable with me. Then, I take a little tour around the house, both inside and outside. If I like a particular room(s) in their home, I may suggest we go hang out in there. Beyond that, I let things unfold naturally.  Truthfully, the only direction I give them  iswhere I want them to be.

When I first started shooting, I was very snap happy.  Meaning, I would take 60 pictures a minute (exaggerating a bit). Now I repeat in my mind, “Be patient. If you wait, the perfect moment will happen right in front of you.” There are times when I go 15 minutes without taking a single photo and there are times where I take a hundred photos in 15 minutes. It all depends on what’s unfolding and how that scene makes me feel at that particular moment.

Also, when I shoot I think about what I want my blog post to look and feel like. Every blog post tells a special story, letting the pictures guide the reader through the experience. With every story there is a beginning, middle, and an end.  I know it’s a great story when pictures show details in-between.  My first photo in a blog post will set the scene. A classical photo of their favorite room, their beautiful house, or a classic portrait of a Mother, after all she is my main focus! As readers continue through the post, I draw out the reader’s senses by capturing the quiet stillness of a shot. Whether that be through the sounds of cooking in the kitchen or the feeling of warm sun through the window.

2015-03-20 at 6.09-17 Hello, I’m Victoria I am a Motherhood Photographer. I capture Mothers with their children, usually in their home, in their natural element. The love and appreciation for my beautiful mama is what inspired me to focus on Motherhood. I cherish the little moments like how my Mom would tuck me in every night and listen to me talk about my day until I fell asleep.  How tired she must have been running a Daycare from 7 to 5 and cooking a meal by 6:30. No matter the day, no matter how she felt, she would always tuck me in, always make me feel loved. That’s why I look capture a mother’s small yet powerful everyday moments.
