Texas Photographer of the Week: Svetlana Photography

svetlana My name is Svetlana Frolova.  I am a wedding and portrait photographer based in Austin, TX.

I was born and raised in Russia, where I studied English and French at Linguistic University of Nizhny Novgorod. After graduation I had the opportunity to move to Austin. Austin holds a special place in my heart because it was here that my love of photography really started. Photography became a passion of mine and that passion led to the profession for which I am extremely grateful. I decided to specialize in wedding photography primarily because it incorporates everything from portraiture to landscape to architecture to photojournalism. My style of photography is a blend of photojournalism and portrait photography, a mixture of artistic posed portraits with fun and natural shots.  This blend of photography allows me to document a chapter in your story in a unique way, and I am thrilled to be writing the book through my camera lens!  I enjoy spending time with each of my clients and I realize how exceptionally fortunate I am to do what I love every single day. Capturing those moments of the most special day of your life is my ultimate goal. I not only have the great opportunity to capture moments that last a lifetime, I also feel extremely privileged to be able to celebrate such an awesome day with my clients!

I also have a specialty in newborn and children’s photography and portraiture. These are some of my absolute favorite clients!

Travel is another of my passions, and I always enjoy opportunities to utilize my expertise in photography for couples planning destination weddings. I’ll travel anywhere to shoot a great couple in a great location! My travels have taken me all over the world and my photography has been featured on CNN, AAA Arizona Highroads, Preferred Lifestyle in Canada and many other venues.

In addition to photography, I enjoy yoga, working out, paddle boarding, spending time outdoors, playing the piano, gardening, cooking, reading and hanging out with my two cats.

Tips from these sessions:

When working with children I try to capture their personality and instead of telling them that we are going to take pictures I tell them that we are going to PLAY! It changes their attitude immediately. To avoid strained, forced, inauthentic smiles I often ask the parents who desperately try to pull smiles out of the kids to just sit back and relax and let me handle that part. And remember your subject doesn’t have to be looking directly at the camera (or even facing the camera ) in order for you image to tell a powerfully authentic story.
