Tips for How to Pose Senior Girls

From booking new clients to scouting fabulous locations to posing bodies, senior girl’s photography sessions are always a non-stop action filled event. And they’re also a blast! Naturally, the more you know what you’re doing, the more fun you’ll have at each and every single senior girl session you shoot!

BP4U Photography Guides is ecstatic to have worked with Stephanie Pana, a self-described “kind-hearted, smile-loving, free-spirited” senior portrait photographer based in Chicago. Together, we’ve created the ultimate “Pro’s Guide to: Senior Girls’ Photography,” a 150+ magazine-style tell-all that covers everything from props to poses, indoor to outdoor shooting, pricing to booking, editing and FAQs.

Today, though, we’re honing in on posing senior girls. All the information you read here is from the guide!

Indoor: Dramatic Window Light

Any photographer knows that light is what makes or breaks a photo. When shooting indoors, amp up the drama by posing your senior girl near a window light. Pana says, “Pose your model with the haze of the light coming from behind them and it creates a soft look.” In the guide she gives you all the deets on camera settings for this kind of shot.

Outdoor: Natural Laying Poses

Pana says to be vague when first asking your model to lie down. She says this will allow the model to naturally fall into a pose she’s comfortable with and from there you can tweak their body. It’s also less overwhelming compared to giving a specific set of instructions. Some laying down pose ideas include them propped up on one elbow, them lying down and facing you, them lying down with their legs propped up on a nearby tree or prop.

Indoor/Outdoor: The Elbow Grab

This one’s simple enough, but wow does it make for a pretty picture! Have your model keep one arm down and then use her other hand to grab the elbow of the “limp hand.” You can shoot this from the front, the side, at an angle or even from the back with her looking over her shoulder.

Learn anything from these senior girl posing tips? I thought you might have! Obviously, this is only a tiny glimpse into BP4U’s Pro’s Guide to: Senior Girls’ Photography.
